Brick Chimney Protection

Foxfire SS-WB™ is a single-component, low VOC, penetrating silane-siloxane water repellent. It is an easily applied, water-based product formulated to penetrate most masonry and concrete pores and capillaries up to 1/4-inch or more, depending on surface porosity and moisture content at the time of application.

Upon penetration, an invisible barrier is formed, and microscopic pores are filled below the surface. That reaction forms a hydrophobic barrier which provides the surface years of protection from moisture intrusion. Foxfire SS-WB™ helps reduce spalling damage caused by the expansion of water trapped inside brick or masonry during cycles of freezing and thawing.

 Performance Benefits:

• Prevents water penetration
• Protects from wind-driven rains
• Deters efflorescence
• Inhibits waterborne stains
• Resists mildew & fungus
• Reduces freeze-thaw cracking and spalling
• Water-based formula for easy clean up
• Will not affect surface profile
• Low VOC formula
• 100% vapor permeable
• Does not change appearance of brick or mortar

Tips and Tools

  • Chimney Flashing – Make sure flashing is uniform, straight, and otherwise properly installed.

  • Concrete Chimney Crown – Inspect concrete for dynamic cracking 1/16” or wider that would permit moisture ingress. If dynamic cracks are visible, replace crown.

  • Brick & Cementitious Grout – Consider repointing before application of sealer in instances of missing grout or joint lines, or if chimney is not straight.

  • Concrete Chimney Cap – Be sure the concrete cap is in good working condition. It is the first line of defense in preventing water and snow from entering a fireplace or furnace.
